I am having my first acute gout attack. I initially was treated for a cellulitis foot infection. I went back because I was still in severe pain so I received a steroid injection. It helped for one day (swelling and pain went down). Two days later I was in the ER in excruciating pain again and they put me on narcotic pain med and precription anti-inflammatory. Next day I follow-up with the walk-in clinic again (I work all day and can't leave work so I can't go to my regular doctor). They gave me another steroid shot and prescribed a steroid pack. I didn't get the pack yesterday until 3pm and I could already feel symptoms coming back. It's a ten day pack.
My brother has Crohn's and received steroids for that...now he has such back arthritis from his hips down he can barely walk. So, there are bad side effects to steroids too....ugh.
