Is "LEMON" JUICE key to Baking Soda Remedy?

Maybe the key to baking soda's success as remedy, and insure minimal side effects, is to combine it first with LEMON JUICE (or cider vinegar etc.)?
It sure seemed to work for me (after an hour or two) where 2 qt of black cherry juice, Prednisone did not SEEM to (after a day and a half).
